This didn't happen when I earlier installed my
software, but whenever I try to shut down Windows messenger
I am told that other applications are using it.  I don't
appear to have any other microsoft programs running.  I
wonder if some programs have made changes to my registry
that caused this or  if you can tell me of processes in the
background that could be the culprit.  I know when I shut
down msmsgs Messenger shuts down, but I beleive that's just
a part of Messenger.  What I want to be able to do is shut
down the program by clicking on the exit tab.

Are you running Norton Anti-Virus with it checking Instant Messaging?

I do have NAV running.  Cant seem to close it with task
manager or process viewer.  Its the version that comes with
systemworks.  anyway, I don't see an option for "monitor
instant messenging" but I can enable and disable
autoprotect, that doesn't make a difference.  It does have
email scanning and script blocking on.  I cant seem to turn
those off if I want to.
Although the message I'm getting is another program is
using features provided  by Windows Messenger.

I'm now running a corporate version of NAV so I can't tell you exactly where
to uncheck it at....but I'm sure Jonathan can.
