(REPOST x2).

Any one solved this problem? there doesnt seem to be a
reply to this!

=========================================================
I am teaching myself how to use Microsoft Messenger
(having
had all my experience in this arena using Netmeeting).  I
have a problem
with sharing applications.  I've searched on this group
for previous
discussion of this. While I'm sure it surely been
discussed I can't spot
it. So at the risk of asking a FAQ:

Symptom: After requesting a "Start Application Sharing",
and the other
person accepts, the "Sharing Session" window appears. It
sticks on
"Waiting..." bottom message bar with "App Sharing"
and "Whiteboard"
greyed out. the "Close" icon is active and will work when
pressed.  But
the app sharing connection doesn't seem to get made.

Situation:
- both machines up-to-date XP Pro with Messenger 6.1.0155.
- both machines inside a Linksys router/firewall, but
communicating via
internet, i.e. logged in and using 2 passport id's.
- text chatting, file transfer, and sharing web cam
images work fine.
- no XP Firewall software running on either machine
- the receiver gets the invite to share app's, and
accepts.  the
"waiting..." message appears there too.
- I can see outbound requests on router log to
207.46.108.24 to port
1863 but nothing back (even if rejected).
- one machine has Norton Antivirus, the other AVG anti-
virus. I've
turned off anti-virus on both machine for test, with no
affect on this
problem.

What to look for to find root-cause of this?

I Also have had to drop Xp's Firewall for the same reason
as Tomco (and got rid of my micky mouse watch the same
day).

After looking around I aggree that Sygate free
(smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm) is the bizz
and have the same results as Tomco.

It is far easier to use than the Xp firewall which used
to work well with Windows 4.7, after installing many port
number's that Mr Kay gave me.

I see you are using an out of date 6.1, how come because
i had no choice but to install the new version or I could
not have it.

If it was me I would save myself self a lot of misery and
do it now?
