I have recently got Windows XP Home edition on a
computer.  I also have
windows MSN Messenger.  Recently i have had problems
changing my on screen
profile picture.  It used to be that i could right click
a picture, save it and
then i could select it by browsing about My Pictures and
selecting it.  On this new system not
only does it save all pictures as BMP or ART when i try
to access them for my
MSN display picture it says:  "The image can't be
displayed or resized.  Please
try again or select another image."

I wish to know if i can save such pictures as jpegs and
use them as my display
picture.

thankyou

Hi,

You'll see this error if the images are too large, you might want to resize them in a photo
editor (the actual size of the display pictures are 96x96, so you should aim for that).

You can however, use BMP, GIF, JPG, JPEG, JFIF, JPE, or PNG as a display picture.
ART is not supported however.

If you're trying to save images from Internet Explorer, and they're only saving in BMP,
you'll need to empty your Internet Explorer cache.  To do so, click the Tools menu in
Internet Explorer, then Internet Options, then choose 'Delete Files'.  After this is
complete, close Internet Explorer and restart it.
