WebCam not working

I have a little bit different issue than what I have seen posted out here
thus far.  I am running XP w/ SP1 on two computers and am current on all
updates.  Running Windows Messenger 4.7 on both and have a Logitech WebCam
(model number V-UD4) on each computer.  I have both systems on the same
internal subnet at this point so that I know there are no issues with
firewalls, routers, etc...

I am able to go through the Tuning Wizard within Messenger without any
problem.  It recognizes the camera, lets me select the camera, starts the
video and shows the image just like it should.  However, when I try to start
a video session within Messenger itself - no video.  Camera light does not
even come on.  Messenger seems to think that it is in a video conference - I
can accept the invitation from the other side, both clients show the video
window open - but both have the same result....

Also, the options tab under the video window  - both the "stop sending
video" and the "show my video as picture-in-picture" options are greyed out.

The following is the driver information being used for the camera on both
systems:

Provider:  Logitech
Date:  04/30/2001
Version:  5.4.8.4

Thanks in advance for any help on this!!

Hello Brian,

This is not the answer you're hoping for. I asked the very identical
questions in this news group more than once yet noone will respond. Not even
Jonathan Kay - who I'm certain knows the answer to your questions. I even
mentioned that Yahoo Messenger works perfectly with the Logitech camera
behind the ZoneAlarm firewall so why doesn't Windows Messenger. I also run
XP SP1 ( but by now it must be SP2 with all the updates) and have the latest
Messenger.
If the folks here know how to fix this why don't they give us a clue? Could
it be that the mere mention of Yahoo working made me into an agent
provocateur attemting to discredit M.S.?
Good luck and if you find out how to make W. Messenger work with AV please
let me know how.

Peter

Hello Brian (again)

I think I found the answer to our problem on Jonathan Kay's web site. I'm
using ZoneAlarm - the freebe version - and it does not enable the necessary
ports for W. Messenger to function with the webcam:

Setting up Video and Voice over a router/non-XP firewall or NAT
Solve ID: 17

Summary:
If you are using a hardware router or non-xp internet sharing service you
will not be able to use Video and Voice in Messenger. Messenger uses a
technology called Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). Currently the only
internet sharing (NAT) software that is UPnP compatible is the built in
Internet Sharing included with Windows XP. Hardware and software vendors are
building UPnP support into their products and should be available soon. For
firewalls, the built-in Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall opens the
ports for video/voice automatically, but other firewalls do allow
video/voice to pass -- by opening ports 5004-65535.
