Removing .NET passport from user account

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering how I can get rid of the connection between
my WindowsXP account and my .NET passport. I use my .NET
passport when I log onto MSN messenger, but I don't want
to be attacked by a mass ammount of messages from my
friends when I first start my computer (and there's no
MSN icon or Windows Messenger icon in the system tray).

I have tried going into the user account and leaving
the .NET passport info empty and unchecking the box that
says "Associate my .NET passport with my Windows user
account."

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Greetings Nick,

To remove the "connection", click the Start Button, then click the Control Panel.  Then,
click User Accounts in the Control Panel.  Select your account name, and then on the left
side of the screen, under Related Tasks, click 'Manage my Network Passwords'.  In the window
that opens, click the Passport.Net\* (Passport) entry and click 'Remove'.  Then restart
Messenger and it will no longer auto login.

Hi there,

It worked! Just one more question, is there any way of
stopping Windows from automatically logging me in when I
logon to my Windows account, but still keep the
association in MSN Messenger(i.e. just click the button
and it logs on)? Or would I need a third party program
like Trillian to do that?

Thanks,

Nick

In MSN Messenger:

Tools / Options / General

Uncheck "Automatically run Messenger when I log on to
Windows"

Hi there,

I know of that setting, and I don't have a problem with
MSN messenger starting with Windows. My question was
regarding Windows messenger (which runs in the background
regardless of the "Allow this program to run in the
background" setting) and getting it to not log me into
my .NET passport when I boot up my computer.

My question is whether or not I can get my Windows
account to NOT log me in, but have my MSN Messenger still
have the button on the first screen so that I just click
it and it logs me in.
