I am just wondering if I can configure messenger to work as a simple
"Winpopup" type of tool. I have a small home network connected through a
cable router and just want to be able to chat within my private network. Not
over the internet but just over my intranet (so to speak).

I don't want to chat with friends or strangers from all over creation and
would like to not even have to plug myself into the worlwide pipeline just to
make it work.

Is this application for me or should I just use some little free app, like
Jabber or Win Popup Gold?

Greetings,

Windows Messenger can't be used for this purpose.  To add to your list of apps that can do
this, LanTalk XP works:
