Windows Forum / Windows XP / Windows Messenger / October 2004XP SP2 and Belkin ADSL/Cable Router Probs
What settings do i need to apply in my router to allow me to make remote assistance work as well as file transfers as well as AIM file transfers as well as ICQ transfers ? TIA Greetings, Remote Assistance uses port 3389 TCP. Messenger file transfers are different depending on what version you're using, however more than likely (unless your particular Belkin has some built-in Messenger support), your Belkin will need support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) for this to work. However, something that you may consider for the others (and may assist Messenger too if the router has built-in support) is to simply set your computer into the DMZ of the router. I had actually turned off Windows firewall as didn't see any point in having two firewalls working... Lets see what happens with the port... DMZ = "DeMilitarized ZOne" i.e not protected by firewall.....in router setup menu I realized yesterday that in the router settings, there was an option for uPnP, so hopefully this will sort the problem.
