No idea unless you tell us what soert of Sony it is.
MM works with dv.avi and wmv video, so if it is a dvd/hdd/sd model then no,
you'll need to convert teh video to wmv first tehn use it.

Sorry, but I forgot to bring the camera home or write down what it is, but
that sounds like exactly what I need to do. Is it possible to download
something to do the conversion? Thanks!

I have a Sony SR-42 & having the same problem. Sony told me that they are
able to import mpeg2 file into WMM 5.1 and if I update the CODEC it should be
ok however I am still trying to find out how to do it. You can import using
the AV imput however you can't remove the time & date. To import without
time & date you have to use the usb port.

in theory, with the right MPEG-2 codec, it might work.... in practice,
success stories are too few... forget trying to make it work and do a file
conversion to a video file that you can be confident in using...
see my website's Import Movie Source Files > Video section for comments
about the codecs and getting MPEG-2 files into movie projects....
