I uploaded a clip from my camera onto a mac and then saved it onto a cd... i
opened that cd on my windows and the file is a "dv" and windows movie maker
doesn't support this type of file... is there anything i can do?

dv on a Mac is a MOV file, whereas dv on a pc is an avi file.
You need to use an app to convert the mov to either dv.avi - no other type
of avi, or to wmv.
Some here to choose from
