Can not place clips in position I want

I have tried copy and paste and also dragging a clip to a desired spot but
when I do it ends up at the begining of the timeline.  I have tried moving
the playback indicatior to where I want the clip placed and it still goes
right to the begining.
Please Help!

Did you try splitting the movie at the point
where you wish to make the insertion?
