I have a 5th Generation iPod that will only work on my laptop computer, but
not on my desktop computer.  They are both Dell computers running Windows XP.
Everything on both computers are set up the same, but the desktop does not
recognize some of my removable hardware (ie: iPod, Kodak Camera Docking
Station).  It used to recognize the Kodak, but even that doesn't work
anymore.  We have tried all the different ports and it doesn't work on any of
them.  We do have an external 250 GB hard drive hooked up to one USB port and
the desktop recognizes that.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would take the problem as PnP (Plug & Play) matter, and try to find the
solution in a broader knowledge base than this newsgroup.

Supposing that this is not a matter of simply re-enabling devices in the
Device Manager (Control Panel | System | Hardware), I would want to find out
in the first place, whether it is a hard- or a software problem.

I think, that I would this approach myself, but I don't expect anybody to
follow suit: I would temporarily swap the hard disk of this desktop for some
spare one, install XP on it (no need for activating the copy), and see if it
recognizes these removables (don't bother to install their drivers).
If this approach should show no problems, then I would suspect the installed
XP of being faulty. I would browse http://support.microsoft.com/winxp for
"PnP" or "Plug & Play".
