Hi,

I run XP on a HP laptop and don't know if there is a possibility to adjust
the general base and treble settings. The closest thing I found was when I
noticed that in the advanced settings for playback sound there are two
"arrows" for adjusting base & treble, but unfortunately they where not
highlighted so the could not be moved. Does this mean that my hardware does
not support this?

And, as a followup-question, in the same box (i.e. sound devices->playback
sound->advanced settings) I found an option called "digital speaker" that was
enabled. What does that mean? I cannot notice any difference if I disable or
enable "digital speaker". Does "digital speaker" simply mean that it is
possible to connect a digital speaker to my machine (because I very much
doubt that the built-in speakers are digital..) I guess all I want to know is
does it make a difference if I enable or disable this option?

Open Windows Media Player>View>Enhancements and see if you
have SRS WOW Effects.  If not, that means you do not have soundcard
support for those features.  On your second question, if you do not
hear a difference for the speaker settings leave the digital settings off.

Thank you.

I do have the SRS WOW effects in the windows media player, and am of course
able to adjust the equalizers in audio programs like the media player. But I
guess my question concerns the sound when I, for example, use the
pandora.com-site where you can listen to music from a webpage: when I use
pandora, there is no visible media player opening other than a box on the
pandora page, and I don't think it offers the possibility to adjust anything
else than volume. So my thought was that pandora doesn't open any specific
media player on my computer, and therefore - in order to adjust bass/treble
when I use that site - I should find a way to adjust the general sound
settings of Windows. But the problem is, as I posted earlier, that the arrows
for bass and treble are not highlighted.

But have I maybe gotten things wrong here and maybe pandora and similar
sites actually play the music through some software on my machine, and then I
should just adjust bass/treble there and it will affect the music I listen to
on the web as well..?

Your sound comes thru whichever app you have designated
as your default, probably WMP10.  I do not have nor use Pandora,
so cannot comment there.

Well the thing is that Pandora uses the Flash Player and it only allows you
to adjust volume. I'm not an expert, but I guess that means that in order to
adjust tone control my only chance is to get greyed out sliders in the
control panel to work. But my guess is that my soundcard doesn't support
this, or that the driver software doesn't support it (i've got the latest one
that HP offers though..)

Cheers, J
