Burned CD's or downloaded audio plays fine, until about 20 seconds before the
end of the track, when it breaks up, then plays normally. Very annoying.
Any ideas?

Besides a technical problem (I'm not a Technician), the following "could"
be some of the reasons for this problem.
1.  Drivers for the burner need to be updated or reinstalled.
2.  A balky (bad) burner, may need to be replaced.
3.  CD's are not quality or brandname disks (cheaply manufactured).
Try the CDs in another player to see if the same problem persists.
Troubleshoot the CD player by going to:
Start>Run>type DEVMGMT.MSC>press OK
Click the + sign in front of your CD drive and rightclick the drive and
and click Properties.  There you can Troubleshoot, check the Drivers
and hardware.
