i have 2 gigs of ram installed but applications wont launch once 1 gig is
used up.

The performance monitor never shows more then 1 gig of memroy used up, yet
applications wont launch when its near the 1 gig of used memory. how to free
up that other gig so that I can use 2 gigs of ram instead of 1. Its like i
have 2 gigs of ram and 1 gig is wasted. also, why dont applications launch?
do i need to configure some swap space or something to ensure applications
launch?

If you're talking about music apps then free up some memory by stopping
certain programmes launching at boot up.

Use a freeware such as :

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/starter.html

You can find out what to stop/what to keep here :

http://www.sysinfo.org/startupinfo.html

Kill some non necessary processes as well :

Check your swap file/page fil : right click on My Computer > Properties >
click on the Advanced tab > Performance - click on Settings > in Visual
Effects > either check "Let Windows Decide...." or if you want to speeed
chings up "Adjust for best performance" > click the Advanced tab > In
virtual Memory make sure your page file is the same size as your RAM : if
your RAM is 2048 then your Page File should be the same > click on change to
modify if necessary > Apply > OK etc.

Cheers,
Jerry
