PLEASE tell me how to convert any file format to MP3 (or other format that
Windows Media Player will play. (It would also be helpful if anyone
could tell me how to reset Preferences in Windows XP Professional.)

I purchased iTunes music - which downloaded in an MPEG-4 format. Windows
Media Player will not play it. So I went to itunes information: "About
third-party music players and AAC file support". The instructions read "To
conver....to another format, such as MP3: (which Media Player will play).

It tell me: "On Windows, choose Edit>Preferences, etc., etc.

How / Where does one locate "Windows" then located "Edit>Preferences?

Or, just please tell me how to convert any file format to MP3 (or other
format that Windows Media Player will play.

It would also be helpful if anyone could tell me how to reset Preferences in
Windows XP Professional.

Lazy. Google is always your best friend. Key in aac to mp3 and lo and behold
the results :

Extract from iTunes help file :

To convert a song's file format:

Choose Edit > Preferences, click Advanced, and then click Importing.

In the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the format you want to convert the
song to, and then click OK to save the settings.

Select one or more songs in your library, and then choose Advanced >
"Convert Selection to...."

To convert all the songs in a folder or on a disk, hold down the Shift key
and choose Advanced > "Convert Selection to," then choose the folder or disk
containing the songs you want to convert.

The song in its original format and the newly converted song appear in your
library.

Easy no ?

Thanks Jerry: However, I DID Google. Also had already tried the Edit>
Preference> Importing, etc - then chose MP3. Then when I went to song and
did "Convert Selection to", it told me ...."_________ could not be converted
because protected files cannot be converted to other formats". BTW, this is
a song I PURCHASED !

You can't use DRM'd files in this fashion.
You'll have to burn them to an
Audio CD and re-rip as unprotected files.
