I shared the vpn connection to my office sucessfully.

However I wish office computers to see the network behind
the windowsXP machine i using to connect.

As it is the office machines can only see the winXP box
that is VPN'd.

what are the best steps to turn the winxp machine into a
true router?

If you want this, consider a VPN site link instead between your two
networks - easy to do; I usually do it with two compatible Sonicwall
firewalls but there are many methods.
