Hi,

I have 3 desktops wired to an SMC router-modem and running XP home. They see
and share with each other.

My new laptop runs XP Professional and connects to the same router-modem via
wireless. Now, I can acces the Internet with Explorer, and the other 3 have
access to the laptop´s files, but the laptop cannot see any of the oither
computers on the net. I must have run the Wizard for a network about 50 times
and nothing, the only computer the laptop can see in the net is ITSELF!

I really am at a loss here. Why do I have Internet, but no file reading to
the other computers??

Please help me. Thanks in advance
SMC

Please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm.

One possible point is that you have to open the File and Printer
Sharing exception in the new firewall.

Thanks very much Hans-Georg. My problem is happening BEFORE I install SP2,
but I will read with interest your link for future reference.

Do you have any idea why this may happen prior to SP2.

Thanks again

Oops, sorry for overlooking that. There are many SP2 related
posts these days.

Please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm.

One thought is that you should select the residential gateway
option when you run the networking wizard. But you don't have to
use the wizard, you can make all settings by hand too.
