Can download mail but cannot access the internet

Have formated and reinstalled XP sp1.  PC on small office lan with ADSL
connected via hub to all users
Every pc can access the internet and download email via outlook express
except one which can only download
mail but cannot access the internet.

When you say "download email" are you referring to getting it from a
mailserver outside your network i.e. at your ISP? And what do you mean by
"access the internet"? Do you mean the WWW? Anybody who is getting mail from
their ISP is "accessing the internet" in a very real way and that suggests
that the problem is possibly in the browser setup on this one computer.

This pc downloads mail from an ISP yes but cant browse any websites.
As I mentioned this pc was reinstalled from scratch

Marianne,

one suspicion is a wrong setting in Internet Explorer, like
mistakenly set up for a proxy server, which doesn't exist, or
something like that.

Can you ping the web sites? For example, when you enter the
following command in a command line window:

    ping w3.com

Do you get 4 positive replies?
