An error 'bubble' automatically launches when I open XP stating that the
Local Area Connection 6 status has limited or no connectivity.

By following the info button I find that the problem is that the network did
not assign a network address to the computer.  However, renewing the IP
address cannot be completed by Windows and I am advised to contact network
manager.

I do not have a network system and run a single PC from home.  This problem
started not long after I had installed AOL broadband!!!!

Can anyone advise?

Many thanks.

Is there a network cable plugged into your computer? If not, you can safely
ignore that message.
