well basically i have a desktop computer with a linksys nic card and a 56k
v.90 modem, and a ibm thinkpad laptop with a 56k v.90 modem. i have the
desktop hooked up to the internet using the linsys nic card. and the laptop
hooked up to my desktop using a lpt port lap link wire. and/or also a phone
line hooked up from one modem to the other. now the laptop can access any of
my files i have listed for sharing but i can't access any of the laptops
files, nor can the laptop share my internet connection is there a way to
enable the internet connection sharing using the modems or the lpt port?

As far as I know u need both computers to have network cards in order to
bring them together in a network (or share an internet connection). I don't
think that it is possible to share a connection using only modems but maybe
I am wrong.
Does the IBM Thinkpad have a LAN/network card?

Sal

Buy a PC card (PCMCIA) of the network variety for your laptop, and then set
up a proper network between both machines
