I have a home office with several pc's, one desktop and a notebook.. my
notebook is for business and in my shared office we have wireless.  To use
the printers, I selected the alt set-up and put in everything at the
office.. well now I can only use printers at my home office, and can not
share folders like before. However the other office, I get all the shared
folders and printers.. So I went in to check the setting, and there is
nothing there.. all the alt settings are gone.. so where is this stored?? I
was going to remove the shared office so I can use my home office like I had
before, but can not find it.. any ideas out there?

Mohawk,

What is the setting on the notebook now?  Is it using DHCP, or did you give it a
static ip address?  Do you have DHCP or static settings at your home office?
Your work office?

How about you start by providing two "ipconfig /all" logs, one from a working
computer at your working office, the other from a working computer at your home
office.  That should give us some idea where to start.

Chuck, here is the home office log on the notebook... will not be at the
other location till next week, but I use DHCP here, and there a static
address:  Some of the address info was changed to protect aganist attacks,
but the data is real.

M,

Well, right now, I suggest that you put back the information, and watch to see
if it stays.  How long ago did you set the information up?  Did you make any
changes since then?  Maybe if we figure what was changed on the notebook, other
than the loss of the Alternate information, we can figure out what we do to keep
it from disappearing again.

I've been looking for where the information itself is stored, so far no results.
Microsoft provides very little documentation on the Alternate configuration.

Sounds confusing to me - and this may sound too simple - But if there are no
entries at TCP?IP>Properties>Alternate configuration (Auto/User configured)
it seems to me that the previous settings are gone (Not "hidden").  Dumb
question but did you reenter the settings and give it a go?

No I never re-entered the Alternate info.. because when I am in that office,
everything works there...
even though there is no data for that location.. it seems that my home
office is screwed up by doing that.. well part of it.. I can get on the
internet and share printers on the home office network, but can not share
files.
