Internet connection sharing problems(it don't work, I think I broke it)

Please can someone help an idiot. Please forgive me if this is in the wrong
forum, but I'm not sure where to go. I have 2 pc's that are networked
like this;

PC 1. Laptop with Ethernet card and USR access point. I have enabled ICS
and it defaulted my IP address to 192.168.0.1, so I set the IP in the AP to
192.168.0.2 with the subnet set to 255.255.255.0 and I then put in the
gateway as 192.168.0.1(I have no idea if this is right or wrong, what should
go here). I have an Intel Anypoint USB DSL modem on here as well.

OK I hope you're still with me. On PC 2 I have a desktop with a PCI USR
wireless LAN adaptor with an IP of 192.168.0.4. and I have run the network
wizard on this machine. Oops, sorry, both machines are running XP Pro. Now
the network bit is ok I can see both machines from both machines and can
access the files. I am now on PC 1 and am connected to the internet and can
surf. I go to PC 2 and can surf the network and files but when I open IE6,
I get that horrible white page that tells you it don't work. I put the
internet machine IP into PC 2 as the gateway? is this right?

Any help in overcoming this would be grateful. I have been to

but it hasn't helped me. I think it is because I don't know what I am
doing.

Simon,

I suspect that you're falling afoul of the fact that ICS was originally created
for sharing Internet access from dial-up service. Do you have a dial-up modem
in there, or am I overlooking something?

Can you please list, in very distinct order, what each computer connects to
physically. Start with the direct connection to the Internet, and identify each
network device. And, for each device, what IP address is it using?

If you configure the network settings manually on PC2, make all of
these settings. I suspect that the DNS Server setting isn't right:

IP Address: 192.168.0.x (1<x<255)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server = 192.168.0.1 or your ISP's DNS server

Thanks, I tried Steve's suggestion and it is all working now. I am typing
from PC2.

The only problem I now have is, I have Norton Internet Security 2005 and
when the security is active I can surf the web on PC2 but I lose my network
connect on the drives of PC1. As soon as I disable NIS then the network
works again. Is this because I need to unblock a port. If so how do I find
out which port to unblock. Will that then let me activate NIS on both
machines?

I do have ADSL but it is on a dial up connection not an always on, on an
Intel usb modem

To allow PC2 to the drives of PC1, configure Norton Internet Security
2005 to allow access on the local area network.
