i am trying to troubleshoot my network connection, but when i run ipconfig,
the window pops open real quick and has text in it, but disappears instantly
before i can see what's going on... i have two machines that are doing
this... why?

Go to "Start -> Run" and type "cmd" in the window. When the command line
window opens use the "ipconfig" or "ipconfig /all" commands...

Because you are trying to run ipconfig from start > run. Ipconfig needs to
be run from a command window. Try sart > run > cmd > which will open a
command window. Then in the command window type ipconfig /all.
