I'm buying a new pc and I want to be up to spec and up to date, so should I
get the gigiabit ethernet 10/100/1000?

The PC will be used on adsl 2+ and on the LAN /workgroup.

Unless you have other gigabit hardware (switches, other computers, etc) on
your network it will only work at 100mbits.  But I'd get it anyway because
that's the direction things will be moving in.
