Windows Forum / Windows XP / Networking and Web / November 2006Not able to access internet via Firefox or IE but have a network connection
I'm not able to access the internet using firefox or IE but i do have a network connection as this is being typed via RDP and a VPN into my work computer and I can ping the router and also external ip addresses. Its not a problem with the router as another machine on the network is working fine I'm not even able to bring up the router web page on 192.168.1.1. The only change I've made recently to the machine was to install a blue tooth usb stick but it was working after it was installed. If you have a VPN connection, and you can't get connectivity to the Internet, I'd bet the first causes the last. I bet talking to whoever supports the VPN, at your work, would be a good place to start. I'm betting that they added some access policies, to keep the work network secure. If you can't get any help there, try checking the LSP / Winsock for corruption. My email is AT DOT actual address pchuck mvps org. Firewalls can also disable a program, not neccessarily an computer/ip address etc. Also check any other security programs you might have running. Some security programs like MicroTrend DO NOT disable thw Windows firewall but add another firewalll on top of everything. If this is the case, disable Windows Firewall AND Security Center in services.
