Hello,
Posting this thread is the ultimate solution before I abandon until my next
format...My desktop running window xp servive pack 2 is connected with a wire
to a modem router(known brand and last model).I get internet. My laptop
running window xp servive pack 2 is connected wireless to the same modem
router and also get internet. I have run properly, I think, the network
wizard on both PC's. My problems are :
On my laptop ,I cannot see my desktop but can see my laptop in the workgroup
I created. On the desktop I can see my desktop and the laptop.
When I try to acces the file on the laptop from the desktop I have a message
telling me that I do not have permission; the network path was not found...
I think that I have messed up on the properties of the wireless connection.
File and folders sharing, windows networks, frame work or is it something
else.
May it be Kaperski as well as I read on the window site that it could block
network to be able to communicate...
In hoping to read you, thank you in advance.

If the computers have Internet service, then WiFi itself is working.

But the problem could well be Kaspersky, or the NetBT setting on either
computer.

Take a look at logs from "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all", from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem.  Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

You have a problem with browser SMBs getting from computer to computer.  Either
NetBT is not enabled on jean-sebastien, or there is a personal firewall blocking
SMBs.

Hello Chuck,

Just to tell you that finaly things got to work...I unistaled the internet
security Kapersky...and let window do the things for a while. Just the time I
set up the router and set up my network....everything worked,,I instaled the
internet security on my PC and still things were working...when I inmstaled
the IS , nothing was working anymore...all connections lost, could not see
eirther PC...I was ballistic!!!so I allowed all the rules for network as
netbat, bios, automatic htcp, ips....then my network came back on live but
loosed internet!!!!!....finally I realised that when I was stoping the anti
hacker things were working...so my ultimate solution as I arrive to the limit
of my present knowledge concerning NT protocols and rules, I just
desactivated the antihacker and let window firwall instead...things are
working but I thing that the firewall let me some trace as I do not my PC on
the laptop...things I will think over next weekend if patience is with me...I
hace one question...
In either my network place I see their own share docs in the lan area but
not the other PC...butr they are in the internet area...is this normal if I
want those file to be share only on the network as they are set for on my
window firewall...

Thanks again,
Regards

That's great, Jean-Sebastien!

Misconfigured and overlooked personal firewalls are the most common cause of
problems reported here.  And they can affect where we see other computers -
under LAN or Internet - too.

When you un install any security product, you have to read instructions very
closely - frequently its easier to install one than un install.
