Open My computer to show it; Right drag it out to the Desktop, taking
'Create shortcut'. R-click that and rename to taste

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP
Its My Computer - Autoplay - Drives you can uncheck the drive letter.
But be warned that this may interfere with getting at the disk in the
drive when you want to use it
