I am still confused on what HPSETUP is. I travel a lot and it comes up on my
WiFi as being connected. I cannot get on line with it nor do I know anything
about it. I subscribe to some WiFi hot spots but HPSETUP over rides them and
causes me problems. I don't know if it is some one trying to take over my
computer. Please help me on this issue. I had a reply that I think was how to
get online with HPSETUP but couldn't find some of the commands suggested.

Thank You for your help. I was getting online ok before HPSETUP. It overroad
my normal WiFi and caused me problems getting online. Still don't have any
idea what it does. I don't understand instructions on the web site. I got it
stopped from over rideing other WIFI by changing it from automatic to manual.

I get this same wireless signal in the strangest places and I can assure you
there is now wireless printers or anything of that nature in the area. It
shows a good signal strength of 54kbps and connection as excellent. If this
is a true wireless internet signal how would one go about untilizing it?

Hewlett-Packard networked printers are usually configured to have an ad-hoc
WiFi network with the SSID named "hpsetup". This allows one to print to the
printer by joining the ad-hoc network. Of course, this assumes that the SW
drivers have been installed onto the host computer.
The WiFi radio can be disabled via a configuration item in the printers
embedded web server. It is also disabled whenever the Ethernet cable is
attached.

Viral SSID
(Information in quotes below copied without permission)
Here is an awesome explanation:

Author: Jason Hiner
"Those who have clicked on one of these viral SSIDs in the past need to go
into their wireless networking properties in Windows and delete these fake
SSIDs from their Preferred Networks to stop propagating this exploit and to
avoid being attacked by someone who knows about the exploit."
Here is an easy fix:

"Also I recommend that the Automatically Connect To Non-Preferred Networks
box be unchecked. I personally do not see any advantage to allowing this, and
it introduces many complications. This is especially relevant when the
computer is in a location that has multiple wireless networks of equal
strength. In those circumstances, WZC kind of wigs out trying to decide which
network to associate with."
