Every time I reboot, about when my taskbar is 3/4 activated, I hear an audio
that says something that sounds to me like "Hard tail plus has loaded".  I
haven't the foggiest idea of what it's trying to tell me and if anybody can
enlighten me, I'd appreciate an email response to halhanig@charter.net.

Thanks loads.

I'm using Nortons  and Webroot Spy Sweeper as well as M/S AntiSpyware.  I think
I'm fairly well protected against catching cold, although I suppose that
anything's possible.

Are you using Internet Explorer or another browser?

If Internet Explorer select Tools, Manage Add Ons.
What items are listed?

There are a dozen listed....do you need the entire list or can I look for a
suspicious one for you?

The list please. I am playing a hunch, which may be a
complete red herring. The list may also jog a comment from an
interested onlooker.

Not in the slightest.....I'm 82 years old and would need a pneumatic jack just
to get me seated on its throne.  Why did you ask?

You referred to "Hard tail plus" in your first post and searching in
Google got a number of results mentioning bicycles.

An easy link to make to an 82 year old ( to a 64 year old for that matter )
in one word is "grandchildren". Are you the only person to use your
computer?

It would seem that you have a programme starting on rebooting. Probably
picked up when browsing the internet. The easiest way to identify this is
probably HijackThis.

Download, install and run HijackThis and post the HijackThis log to me
by direct email.

I would, however, be pleased to receive a copy of the log by email to
my address, which is given below removing dump
from the address.

Dear Hal:

I think I may have found what you heard.  It sounded that way to me,
the first time I heard it.  I found an answer by searching for "plus
has loaded" with www.Clusty.com.

Do you have a CyberPower Uninterruptable Power Supply?  The voice may
actually be saying  "Power Panel Plus has loaded."

Do you have a little flashlight battery icon in your tray (lower right
corner of your screen)?  If so, click on that to open UPS Management.
It will show the CyberPower PowerPanelPlus, which gives information
about your UPS.

Click on Setup and, if you wish, you can uncheck "Play voice" and I'm
guessing your voice will not be there the next time you Start or
Restart.

I just now noticed the request for an email response so I'll copy this
to an email as well, but leave it here in case anyone else has the same
question.

Good luck,
Curmudge
