If you choose an empty area on your background (one without an icon) and
right-click there - and choose properties - what do you get?
Do you have the most current video driver from the video card
manaufacturer's site installed?

I think you are new to Windows XP. Just goto Control Panel and on the left
side pane click "Switch to Classic View". You will get everything you want as
older version of Windows.
Let us know, if this information is useful to you.

I have been to the control panel and it is in Classic View and there is
nothing there to tell me to 'cick to change to' which is what I want to
do.
I have tried system restore to no avail.

I think that "Show Comman Task in Folder" is disable. To make it enable, open
any Folder or Control Panel. Click on Tools menu - click Folder Options. Here
click on choice "Show common task in folder".
Is this what you want? If not, then please make clear what you actually
want. I describe your problem in detail.

That did not work.
When I first installed Windows XP when I click on Start, Control panel I
had 2 choices of how to view the Control Panel now I have only 1 and
that is Classic view. What I want is to go back to the original 2.
