Have been reading other people problems with interest, and now have one
of my own.

Running XP Prof. Also running a special program for my work, which
entails Real Time communication with another office using the
telephone. Occassionaly get a TAPI Error 0, which locks my system so
completely it takes up to 12 Re boots to get going again.
Also after a new HD installed [by a techno guy] I find restarting a
problem too, so instead of shutting computer down I Hibernate, this
allows a quick start to the day, otherwise a few reboots to get up and
running.
Any ideas welcome, as all the techno guys here have not come up with
anything.
Thank in advance Peta-Granny Geek.

Right Click the My Computer icon on desktop. Select Properties.
Next, select Advanced.  Look for a block that says Startup and recovery. Press the settings button.

In System failure section, turn off  (un-check) Automatically restart.

Write an event to system log should be Checked (selected).
Apply change.

See what Event Viewer has in it's log.  Select  Start  button/  select Run , then  type in

eventvwr.msc<enter>

-- or Go to  Control Panel / Performance and Maintenance/Administrative Tools >Event Viewer.

Review the  sections and look for Errors or Warnings that match  the time the event occurred.
Double click---the information  "may" give a clue.

Also, check on your "Real Time communication" program.  Make sure it is XP compatible. Make sure it is the latest version. Check with the vendor about the "TAPI error 0".
