I have norton anti-virus. Do I need spybot and zone alarm also? Thank you Norton anti-virus is an anti-virus program. Spybot search and destroy is a spyware prevention/removal program. Yes. *Any* anti-virus program doesn't protect yo against the things Spybot Search and Destroy and ZoneAlarm do. You need all three types of protection. As a matter of fact, when it comes to anti-spyware protection, you should have multiple products, not just SS&D. Note what Eric Howes, who has done extensive testing on Anti-Spyware products, states: "No single anti-spyware scanner removes everything. Even the best-performing anti-spyware scanner in these tests missed fully one quarter of the "critical" files and Registry entries" See http://spywarewarrior.com/asw-test-guide.htm So I recommend that you run several. Start with these Spybot Search and Destroy Adaware Spyware Blaster They are all free. And trend handles firewall, virus, spy ware, MS security updates, Spam & Fraud filters, privacy protection, mail, web mail and web site filtering. Their 2 year subscription is worth missing any single virus. Possibly because trend just started in 2005 adding interaction with MS update, your HOSTS file, and the different kinds of spy ware, and other crap thrown at you. Though I've seen popup warnings of attacks, I can say I haven't seen a virus using trend over 7 years now. And that's what it's all about anyway's. This is just a FWIW: Check your OS install disks, the extras sections and see if you don't already have a FREE 1 year paid Trend version on the disk. That's where I found my 1st version. and I've had it arrive on other CD's since then. Can't ever recall seeing a free mcaffee on any CD. You're welcome. Glad to help. But questions about "best" get many different opinions. Every product has its partisans and if enough people answer, you'll get recommendations for all the contenders. That said, I'll give you my opinion. I'm happy with Avast, but I've also heard good things about AVG and others. If you had Norton Security Suite you'd get the firewall, antispam (probably) and antispyware (most likely) as well bundled into one product.
