I have a brand new laptop with XP installed on it. I am new to XP  as I was
using 98SE before. When I got my new Dell, they had installed Adobe reader,
etc. and I could see them as installed in the Control Panel Add-Delete
programs.

So to my surprise days later when I installed Office 2003, everything was
fine but, somehow, the Office program does not appear in the Control Panel
Add-Delete Programs. They do appear in List- all programs but not in tne
Contreol Panel. Why?? And they seem to work fine. The same thing happened
with all applications i did installed on the laptop. I am confused.

Thanks for the reply.

However, when I looked up the KB link you sent me, it pertains to these
products:

·    Microsoft Windows 98 Standard Edition
·    Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Developer Edition
·    Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Standard Edition
·    Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition

and not Windows XP It also says:

"CAUSE
This behavior occurs if a program's DisplayName or uninstall key name
is longer than 63 characters."

but AutoCad and Microsoft Office 2003 are fewer than 63 characters!!!

Any more thoughts????

Thanks

Check the Uninstall key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Look for the AutoCad key and see (when you click on the name), if the
DefaultIcon value in the right panel has a negative number in it.

Thanks for the reply.
