am a newbie

I downloaded ie7 thru Windows Update; Update indicated that a problem exists
and a Troubleshoot icon would be on my desktop; the Icon would not open and
I
received error boxes when I tried to open my Browser icons.

The first error box:  appname ieplor.exe            appver: 7.0.5700.6
                               modver 5.2600.2945          modname:kernell
32
                                                                          offset:
00012a5dll

Second erro box:  WINDOWS UPDATE.MICROSOFT.COM/EM/DEFAULT
                           Windows cannot find
'http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default asp'

I have Windows Xp;  My Outlook express works fine---I cannot open Yahoo or
hotmail.
all suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance
Doug

PS: I am posting this to these news groups on my list; I cannot get on line
thru
