I've read that when you install XP you will be asked to activate it.  That
never came up.

I've read that you can choose to activate through the Start menu.  It
doesn't show anywhere.

I can't find any place on MSN to activate.

What should I be doing?

Not all versions of Windows XP needs to go through activation.
There are some OEM versions, such as from Dell, where Windows
XP is bios-locked, or linked to the particular system. Tell us
more about your computer, i.e., make and model, and whether or
not Windows XP came pre-installed or not, etc.

OK, XP Pro came installed on this IBM TP42 laptop, but no media came with
it so I bought that a couple weeks ago.  Which was fortunate, because I
had a disaster days later.

I'm not at all certain what's up tho, because the installation that came
with it when I bought it (used) was considerably different and much faster
than the one I just installed.  I think there's a lot of IBM stuff loading
and running now.  I wish I knew what I could remove.

Thanks

You need do nothing because you have an IBM computer and activation has
already been done by the OEM and is included in the restore disk(s) image.
