Sorry about posting here but can't find a IE7Group.
Went to see a friend tonight. I suggested he checked his cache size - we
tried to do it but the Tools would not open. It merely flashed for a split
second. In Control Panel the usual "Internet Options" had no title and
wouldn't open.
Any pointers for a simple fix. We did try to re-install but got a message
saying IE7 was already installed.

Please try the IE7 group.
The recommended newsgroup is microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general
In a proper newsreader:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general
If you must use a web interface:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.
public.internetexplorer.general

Go into the control panel ==> add/remove programs
then opt to uninstall IE7
you should get a choice to repair it
give that a try

I want to help you but I need more information. You said you reccomend your
friend check his cache size, why did you do that? What is the spefic problem
you are having with IE? Do you get an error? What specifically is happening
that you need to fix?
Best regards,
Kaja

Just that his cache was very large.

Well I don't have an answer why tools, internet options does not work, but if
his cache is large he should clear the temporary internet files and history
on a weekly basis. This will speed up IE and maybe solve the problem. Go to
tools, internet options, delete. Select delete temporary files and delete
them, then clear or delete history. See if that helps.
