XP syscfg.exe is spiking my CPU...

Often even Task Manager starts then disappears. I ran A/V
in Safe Mode, it found over 4K worms in System Restore
files, and cleaned it. But still the CPU spikes like my
heartbeat. The Processes screen says it's the syscfg.exe
file that creates the %100 usage. No page file usage at
all. What the heck is happening? Do I have to reload
XP? Can I repair from an XP function?

Looks like your A/V program didn't catch one...

This isn't a Windows file, and appears to be from a
trojan:

Trojans are stealthy and not always found by anti-virus
software. If you find suspicious processes running or task
manager or regedit is being killed after opening, you
might want to try one of the following tools to check for
trojans (after scanning with at least two anti-virus tools

THANKS Dave Jones and Kent England! I found the Trojan and removed it. There was a syscfg.exe file AND a program that put it back in when I deleted it! No more spiking, and all programs are running smoothly

You said that you found the trojan and removed it.

What is the name of the trojan and how did you remove it?
