SFC /SCANNOW WON'T RUN

After typing sfc /scannow in the run box, Windows asks me
to insert my XP CD (XP Pro, Full). All I get is the
option to skip, retry or cancel. It is asking for the SP1
CD. I have the original XP with all updates added via
Windows Update.

All of the ServicePackFiles should be in the Windows directory.

Take a look in Regedit,
Hkey_Local_Machine,
Software,
Microsoft,
Windows,
Current Version,
Highlite Setup,
and see if ServicePackSourcePath is listed,
It should look like:

ServicePackSourcePath REG_SZ C:\windows\ServicePackFiles.

If you don't see it, double click anywhere in a blank area and select DWord
Value
and type in ServicePackSourcePath and hit Enter.
Then right click and select String value and type in
C:\windows\ServicePackFiles and hit Enter
Then File and Exit.
Reboot

Select Modify instead of String Value

Thanks for the response. The path was missing from my registry so I
put it back. Unfortunately, the problem is still there. I checked the
path and there is an i386 folder full of files. It is asking for an XP
SP2 CD and says my CD is not correct. I tried adding the i386 folder
to the registry path, but that didn't help, either. Maybe I should do
a clean install, but everything is working OK at the moment.

If you have the space on your hard drive, You can copy the original I386
folder on your CD to it, then go back into regedit and change the
sourcepath location from the CD to the hard drive.
This will save loading the CD when ever the system looks for a file.

I just thought of something, are you using a retail version of XP or an OEM
version from the computer manufacturer?
If yours is an OEM, you may not have this capability.
