system freeze

i have a dell latitude notebook ,withy a   windows XP pprofessional operating system, it tends to just freeze will loading some programs or of its own accord, i cannot move the mouse and neither can i switch it off, i just have to disconnect the power source to start all over again, what do i do pls, i need help.

Download Adaware and / or update Reference file from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ 
and use it to remove parasites.
