I got into BIOS.  Thank you for your help on an earlier post.  My boot is
still slow.
Boot is faster but I still have problems.  I pressed DEL to find BIOS, thank
you.  When the computer first comes on it has a black screen with the Dell on
it.  It says "Dell Dimension 300 series.  BIOS Revision A01
At top F2-setup  F12-Boot Menu"  i can get into boot menu now.  It is really
slow.  It takes 2 minutes to go to next screen or set up menu or boot menu.
Next screen is Microsoft Windows XP screen that is loading with the blue
loading bar.  It takes 2 minutes to get to my desktop.  I did what you told
me and like I said it is a little faster and doesn't hang up.  But, is still
way too slow.  I disabled the slave drive interface.  I just put off on the
slave drives.  the master slave and primary slave drives.  Was that right?  I
put # 1 on the boot sequence as my hard drive.  Dell won't help me except for
a fee nor will Windows folks help except for a fee.  My computer is just 6
months old.  Thanks for your help.

First thing I see...  BIOS revision A01.. My bet is that there is a newer
revision on Dell's site.

You have a Dell computer that is 6 months old and Dell is charging you a
Fee?  Was this one of those special deals they have and you didn't up the
warranty any?  Because if it is having trouble getting into/around the
BIOS - this is a hardware issue...

sometimes old equipment just runs slower.........some specs of your system
would help.
under start/all programs/accessories/system tools there is disk clean up and
disk defrag run them.
Also by right clicking the icon for your HD and then properties you can do
an error checking that will start when you reboot.
If you open IE and click tools and internet options you can delete
cookies/old IE files and erase you browsing history.

It's so much easier to suggest solutions when you don't know too much about
the problem

I did all that Peterk.  My computer is just 6 months old.  I got a tech from
Dell to chat with me and he said to open system tower and reset cable
connections so I'm trying that tomorrow.  Thanks.

Be sure to have the power off.....disconnect from the wall before you stick
your fingers in the machine.
let us know how that works,
