When I use "search" from Windows Explorer, the system doesn't find the files
I'm looking for, even when I KNOW they are there.
It only fails on my C: drive - I have an external drive (drive X:) and the
same search spec finds the files perfectly (all I change is the location to
search)... that's how I know that I'm doing the search correctly.
What kind of parameter is making the difference between my C: drive and X:
drive that files are found on one and not the other??
My laptop is also running XP Pro, SP2 but the search on it works fine. I've
compared everything I can think of and can't find any differences... HELP!!!
This is making me nuts!!

Are you searching for HIDDEN files? If so, you need to check the
"include system/hidden files" in the search options.

No question is difficult if you know the answer.

Nope... regular files. At first I only suspected something was wrong, so I
picked a JPG file in the C: root directory and entered the full file name in
the search. It didn't find it.
I then changed the search parameter to search my external backup drive for
the same file - the only spec I changed was the drive on which to search - it
found it immediately.

Get the free Agent Ransack. It's faster than MS Search and finds what the
built in one misses. :-)
