I have a Dell inspiron 2200 laptop and Windows XP. There is something wrong
with my keyboard. When I press 'Caps Lock' or 'Tab' it activates the tab
and/or the caps lock function (it varies).  When I press 'W' or 'Q' the
output is either 'qw' or 'wq'. When I press 'A' or 'S' the output is either
'as' or 'sa'. When I press 'Z' or 'X' the output is either 'zx' or 'xz'. When
I press '1' or '2' the output is either '12' or '12'. ( same problem with the
shift function '!' and '@'.) This problem comes and goes. It was like this
for hours and as I was typing (with the problem) it was fixed all of the
sudden, but as soon as I tried it again, the problem came back. Please help,
it is hard typing like this!

Has there been a drinks spillage? Borrow another keyboard to test but
the simplest remedy is probably to buy another keyboard!

Hope this helps.

Since it is a laptop buying another keyboard is not as easy as for desktops.
How old is your computer, does Dell have any FAQ's regarding this type of
problem or did it start after "spillage"?  Obviously if it is Dell's problem
you need to contact them but if it is spillage you will probably have to
take it to a repair.

Um Glenda you make a good point about it being a laptop.

My first thought is that this is a keyboard cable problem; the cable
might be shifted in the ZIF connector on the mainboard.  Call Dell
support and see what they say.  There could be a well-known problem that
they can fix.  Otherwise, the KB could be simply worn out.

Thanks for the help. I just pounded the keyboard a few times, and then it
went back to normal. So far so good, but I was wondering if it was some sort
of Microsoft accessibility option that was activated or something.
