I have xp pro. SP1a Installed and SP2. (up to date all up dates) The problem is I run tool (sfc /scannow) It asks me for SP2 cd now. My version is SP1a and has worked up till the last release (FEB.2006) Now it asks for SP2 cd when I run the tool. How can I get a latest copy of SP2? not the 2004 release. The latest version with all up dates for SP2 up to FEB.2006. or will 2004 release solve this? It has never asked for SP2 before. Why I ask this is because last set of updates (FEB.2006) The system has started asking for SP2 O/S cd when running the tool sfc /scannow It asks for it 2 time's in the scan now. SP1a disk works for most of the scan, But about half way through it ask's for SP2 disk. I can skip and carry on the scan. So it can not restore (WPFS) without SP2 cd now. sfc /scannow has worked with SP1a disk till last update. Do you think someone can release an updated cd of sp2 up to FEB. 2006? This is the best tool to solve slow boot problems it has allways worked for me. I would like to solve this without buying a new O/S to run this tool. Thanks for you time. Is it possable that this file Can be corrupt? or will this file (I386) allways be a good copy? can I copy this I386 file to cd after say an up date and run check and put this copy of I386 in instead? Once SP2 is slipstreamed with original CD then the i386 file is good. It shouldn't become corrupted unless you've meddled with it. Two times durring the scan using this new iso image. Will I have to add every update after 2004 sp2 (winows xp-kb835935-sp2-enu.exe) to this new iso image? please test what I am saying so you can see it for your self. Go to Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Setup Modify "Service Pack Sourcepath" to read C: (assuming your installation is on C:) Also modify "Sourcepath" to C: Close registry editor and it should work. Can anyone tell me what two KB's (updates) need to be slipstreamed into my cd to get sfc /scannow to work? sp1a has been slipstreamed with sp2 and still asks for sp2 cd. You do NOT need any updates to make your slipstreamed CD other than SP2. Repeat, you ONLY need SP2!! You do NOT need to slipstream any other updates at all as SP2 included ALL updates prior to its release! Any updates after that are irrelevant to using sfc /scannow. You must have them installed on your machine of course, but as far as this CD is concerned they don't matter at all. In other words all you need is your original installation CD that came with your computer and the SP2 download, you then slipstream both of those into a new CD. You say you slipstreamed SP1a with SP2....that is wrong. SP2 contains all updates from the day XP was released. Ignore SP1a. You slipstreamed CD should only incorporate your original CD that came with your machine and SP2. I built the computer my self it's been running for 3 years. it has all update's that you can get for sp2 installed (all update's). I used the original CD and a downloaded copy of sp2 to do the stream like you posted. I got all green checks. I burned the ISO image, I copyed the I386 from new ISO to C:\I386, I changed the path to point to C:\ and also the servicepackfiles path C:\servicepackfiles. It still asks for sp2 CD to replace unreconnized .dll files. I don't know what else to say my friend I have tryed. It asks for a sp2 cd two time durring the scan about half way through. It did this same thing before the stream and after this did not start till the last set of updates for FEB.2006. > P.S. You should find the i386 folder on the new slipstreamed CD and copy it to C: I just did a Start Search i386 on my CDRW drive which is J in my case. Right clicked it and clicked "copy" then went to C: in Windows Explorer and clicked "paste". You don't have to make a folder in advance. I can skip the first prompt then it asks again I can skip the seconded prompt then it runs all the way through and finishes. so as I said before this never did this until the last set of updates FEB. 2006. I think that it may be I need to add the FEB. updates to the stream it may fix the problem or not. I am not sure of what to do now. I guess I could try another stream to see if the i386 was corrupted some how. But I got all green checks. thank you for you help I would have never got this far without it, Note: the scan works from the drive just like it was when pulling it from the cd so I know the paths are right. Something in your setup maybe is different from the norm. I wonder if you stick your slipstreamed (new) CD in at those prompts, what it would do or say. Later updates shouldn't have anything to do with this. My slipstreamed CD was for my XP Home installation and sfc worked right through 66 updates after SP2 with no problem & never once asking for the CD. Now I'm on Pro I guess I have slipstreaming SP3 into my current CD to look forward too, sometime next year. Anyway, I'm lost at this point, so good luck!! You will have to do a repair install.
