Windows Macrorecorder

For many years I have been using the old Windows Macrorecorder
(recorder.exe), which still works nicely even under WindowsXP (Home ed.). I
am using it quite extensively with the Metastock technical anaysis program of
EQUIS (Reuters).
Since recently for some reason the files created by the macrorecorder (with
extension .rec) can no longer automatically find the Macrorecorder program.
The regular procedure for assigning an extension to any program does not work
for it either. The Macrorecorder program just refuses to appear in the list
of programs of the window "Open with".
Who can help me to solve this problem?

It is not a big thing, for I can still start up the Macrorecorder first and
then open the needed file, but it would be nicer if I could open the file
directly, like I used to do.

Or does anybody know a more modern general macrorecorder program like the
old Windows Macrorecorder, that one can use together with any other program?
This could also solve another problem that I have with the Windows
Macrorecorder since a number of years. This old one no longer works
selectively for the program for which the macro has been made, like it used
to do in the old days. It would be nicer to have a macrorecorder that does
work selectively.

See this on how to associate recorder.exe with *.rec files.

Thank you for your answer. I have been doing this before, but without
success, as I told in my previous message. Today I again tried to open the
.rec-file that I daily use, but got immediately the message that it is not a
valid Win-32 application. Fortunately, the file can still be opened by first
starting up the program.

Apparently the macrorecorder program is no longer fully accepted by
WindowsXP and the 32-bit structure. It is therefore that I am getting even
more interested in a new general macrorecorder program, but sofar I have not
been able to find any. The nicest solution would be if Microsoft would add
one to WindowsXP, but they might be to busy with things that I don't need.

Maybe you need to find a 32-bit macro recorder.
