When trying to copy files and folders to CDs I get a message telling me to
please insert cd in disk drive F. I already have a cd in disk drive F. That
seems to tell me that my computer does not 'see' the cd inserted. The blank
cds I am using are Sony CD-R 700 MB. They have the Compact Disc Recordable
symbol with SUPREMAS written next to it. I am fairly certain these are blank
discs for both data and audio use. I am trying to copy photos to cd to save
them and free up space on C drive. At one point I was getting an option to
format the disc and when I did that I was able to copy to the disc. After
getting that option the first time I no longer get that option coming up.
When I insert a blank disc in drive F; open my computer and then try to open
drive F I get an error message. I have no idea what to do. My daughter's
childrens pictures are all downloaded on my computer from her camera and she
is afraid of losing them if something happens to my computer. HELP!! I have a
DELL dimention 8250 computer and a XP operating system. Thanks for any help
you can give me.

You cannot "format" a CD-R.
You can format a CD-RW.
You may want to utilize a third party application (Roxio, Sonic, Ahead Nero,
etc..) to burn CDs.

Does this mean XP only allows copying to CD-RW? When I went to Windows XP
site under heading Copy files and folders to CDs (Aug 24, 2001) it does not
single out CD-RW. It states 'insert a blank, writable CD into the CD
recorder'. Must a CD-RW be formated first in order to be recoginized by the
CD writing wizard?
