My CPU is running at 100% most of the time.  When I open Windows Task
Manager, it shows the file SSCEvtHdlr.exe running at 80 to 99 cpu.  To stop
this, I have to reboot.

Anyone have any reason as to why and how I can stop it?

Thanks,

Hi Roger:

A quick search of the web shows that SSCEvtHdlr.exe belongs to the AOL
Safety and Security Center. I suggest you ask AOL technical support for
help.

Hello Roger,

Try to increase the virtual memory of your PC to its maximum permissible size

This can be done by going to Control Panel >System >Advance > Performance>
Click at setting > Virtual Memory > Click at Change > Custom Size > Set >
Initial Size : 4090 MB , Maximum Size : 4095 (The system could tell you what
is your maximum size as you increase it) > Click OK and reboot your PC.

I tried this, it works for my PC, I do not know if it works for yours.

Please change back to your original settings if it does not work.

Thanks

Low

Hello Roger,

Try the following system performance maintenance steps also:

1. Disk clean up
Go to Start > All Program > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Clean Up >
Click OK after scanning

2 Check you hard drive for error and fixing it
Going to My Computer >Right Click Local Disk C > Properties > Tool > error
Checking > Check Now > Tick Auto fix file error and Recover Bad Sector >
click Start > Reboot your PC. This process would take 60 minutes or more
depending the size of your drive C.

3. Disk Defragmentation
Going to My Computer >Right Click Local Disk C > Properties > Tool >
Defragmentation > Defragment Now > Defragment This process would take 20
minutes or more depending the size of your drive C.

I hope these steps could help to improve the performance of your PC.

Best Regards

Low

I made an error in saying the Slow HD posting was in this group. It is in
the Windows XP hardware group.
Sorry Bill
