Dear Sir,

Currently I could check my hard disk by typing in the command “chkdsk
[drive:] [/p] [/r]” at the command prompt after START > RUN.

I could also check the hard disk by going to  My Computer > Right click
local drive C > Properties >Tool > Error Checking > Check Now > Tick auto fix
file errors and recover bad sectors > and  Reboot the PC

The former method allows me to do my work and it takes a shorter time to
complete, but the latter one takes about 90 minutes for my drive C.

May I know if both two methods achieving the same result ?

Which method is more thorough and better ?
i.e. could improve the performance of PC better

How to determine which method to use  ?

Thanks

Low

Running from cmd is the better way as the OS isnt in use as it would be
from properties.Actually though,booting to xp cd,recovery,type:CHKDSK C: /R
is optimal, and R chks the disk & sector repair.
