When starting up a blue screen appears staing that itis Checking file system
on D. I allowed this to run the first time it happened and it appeared to be
OK. However it now comes back every time I start up and I can't prevent it
from Reappearing each time.
I tried to defragment this Drive but was unable to do so as a window comes
up stating that I need to run CHKDSK /f.
But it will not let me do this.
Can anyone offer advice on how to stop it appearing at start up and allow me
to defragment

Hi Larry,
Download this tool:
AutoRuns for Windows v8.61 By Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell"
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx
Run it and click Scheduled Tasks  Tab and you will see two CheckDsk :
Auto chkdsk /*       <= leave this
Auto chkdsk /??\r      Remove this if it there.
HTH.

What is D? Is it a second hard drive, a second partition on a hard
drive, an external drive or something else?

Have you run Disk CleanUp first? Might help.
