Can anyone help me - I have an athalon 3400+ running win xp home - I have
installed sp1a but when I try to install sp2 it freezes on reboot and I have
to use repair function off of disk to get back and running  I have tried
installing the following hotfix WindowsXP-KB885626-v2-x86-enu (per
instructions) and it is no help . I have an older gigabyte motherboard that
they no longer support so I cannot get a bios update unless I want to pay one
of these other companies on the internet that supposedly has the correct bios
update if I give them  $50 .I really would like to get the sp2 installed so I
could use ie7, media player 11 and other apps that need sp2 installed first

You'll need to prepare carefully before installing SP 2:

"Get Your PC Ready for Windows XP SP2"
