User account shutdown, chkdsk runs

We have two systems in our home. My wife's system has two accounts set
up. Windows XP Home, with all updates, is her operating system. Her
account has admin rights but the 10 year old boy is a user with his own
password.

I cannot figure this out-- my son is logged on XP (Matthew), when he
finishes his homework and goes to Start/ Shutdown/ Turn off computer,
the system shuts down properly. However, on the next system startup
Chkdsk will run .

If Matthew goes to Start/ Log off/ then shuts down from the main logon
screen the computer shuts down normally. The next system start up is
accomplished without a Chkdsk examination. I've tried some things I
found regarding "dirty bit" but nothing solves the issue. I'm curious
why this happens.

I am not sure as to why the problem as it normally arises if you power
off or press the reset button.

The readme is quite a long one. It describes what seems to be a closely
related problem. I downloaded and installed the fix. We logged on as
Matthew (user) then shutdown right from his specific start menu. A
subsequent restart, and chkdsk did not run during the startup. The kids
have been out for a week so we haven't done much with his account. We
will give it a good test this week. I'll post an update, so far so good.

I wish I could have found that myself! I need to learn how to search the
KB with the right descriptions. Thank you-- much appreciated.
